In Greek mythology, the Nereids are sea nymphs, the fifty daughters of the 'Old Man of the Sea', Nereus. Unlike mermaids, nereids appear fully human and do not manifest scales or a tail upon contact with water. Drawing on this story and her Greek heritage, Lauren captures female figures exploring an underwater world in her painting ' Sea Nereids'.
