Conceived by visual artist Paul Odekerken and formed from hand-laid clay pieces, LAVA shows a skin of overlapping fragments – all pressed into place so that their edges ride over one another. Firing fuses the body yet preserves the seams, fine cracks and the irregular, rugged rim. Light sinks into the joints and lifts on the raised spots, producing bold relief and shadow. The pattern, unique to each planter, is elemental and visually direct, with a raw, lava-like feel.
